Our Impact: At the Health Education Council (HEC), we are dedicated to improving health outcomes of people living in the Sacramento region's historically under-served neighborhoods. In 2023, we served 147,008 low-income neighborhoods residents with our programs and services focused on Community Safety, Economic Well-Being, Health Access, Social Connection, and Wellness Education.

Our Approach: HEC serves as a bridge, connecting residents and organizations to each other and to the tools and resources they need to improve outcomes and change lives in their communities. We prioritize listening to each community member's perspective to understand what they want and their needs, to bring about healthy transformation block by the block. The HEC staff culturally reflects the distinctiveness of the region. Our staff collectively speaks nearly 10 languages and bring rich career and life experiences to help us connect to many of the hard to reach communities that we serve.

Health Education Council was recognized by the California State Legislature as a Nonprofit of the Year in 2016, 2021, and 2023.


   

Giving Activity

Mission

HEC believes in improving the health of those living in historically under-served neighborhoods is essential to a community’s overall health strategy. This takes community-wide collaboration and investment—of time, money, and resources—to provide key services and build the trust required to deliver them. HEC leverages the power of collaboration to improve health outcomes in under-served communities.

Needs

$ Walking Groups - $25-$250: HEC needs your support to host our three weekly walking groups, which consists of elderly and stay at home parents. Each week, the walkers also receive fresh produce and a health-related workshop. A contribution of just $25 helps us to host one walking group. A gift of $250 helps us to host 10 walking groups.

$ Therapeutic Painting Class - $50-$250: HEC needs your support to facilitate support and social groups for Spanish-speaking women. A contribution of $50 purchases the supplies for one therapeutic painting class. A gift of $250 ensures that we can purchase supplies for 5 classes.

$ Moms Support Group - $75-$300: HEC needs your donation to lead our weekly support groups for Middle Eastern moms and parents where they make friends and learn more about healthy eating and living. A contribution of $75 will go towards one of the weekly support groups. A donation of $300 ensures that we can host a month's worth of weekly classes at one of our locations.

$ Young Women's Wellness - $100-$600: HEC needs your support to host Ladies First, a comprehensive wellness program for young women of all ethnicities to explore wellness topics that are unique to their experience. A $100 donation provides 1 session for the young women in the program. Donating $600 helps to fund the full 6-week program.

$ Micro-Lending - $500-$2500: HEC needs your support to launch our no to low interest micro-lending program for aspiring entrepreneurs from under-served communities. Your donation helps to give a hand up, not a handout. The loan amounts will range from $500-$2500.
