Melissa's Mission in Motion

For over 17 years, Mark and I have had the privilege of serving alongside refugee families—an experience that has deeply shaped our hearts and strengthened our faith.

It’s why I serve as Secretary for Capital Community Athletics (CCA), and why I’m reaching out on this Big Day of Giving.

Scripture reminds us in Galatians 6:2 to “carry each other’s burdens,” and in doing so, reflect the love of Christ in tangible ways.

Many of the children CCA serves have come from countries like Afghanistan, Syria, and Ukraine—often carrying the weight of war, displacement, and uncertainty. When they arrive here, they are stepping into the unknown.

CCA meets them right where they are—on the field.

Through sports, these kids begin to heal and rebuild. They form friendships, gain confidence, and experience what it feels like to truly belong. Coaches and mentors pour into their lives, consistently showing up and reminding them they are seen, valued, and deeply loved.

This work is a reflection of God’s heart—to welcome the stranger, to care for the vulnerable, and to create spaces where people can experience hope.
