Umoja Community Education Foundation (UCEF) is dedicated to enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of Black/African American and other students from historically underserved communities.
We serve over 16,000 students across 80 campuses in the state of California through programs through the lens of Afro-centric pedagogy. Umoja creates spaces where students are seen, supported, and empowered to thrive on campus, in their communities, and beyond. And across our campuses and communities, the evidence of our work is clear.
Each year, Black students enter higher education carrying dreams, talent, and limitless potential. Yet access, resources, and opportunity remain uneven.
This Big Day of Giving, we invite you to be part of our community by investing in the brilliance, leadership, and future of our students.
Through the power of community giving, we invest in scholarships, fellowships, mentorship, and the programs that help Black students thrive - - at Umoja, we believe that The Success of Our Scholars is Everybody's Business!.
Umoja, (a Kiswahili word meaning unity) is a community and critical resource dedicated to enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of African American and other students. We believe that when the voices and histories of students are deliberately and intentionally recognized, the opportunity for self-efficacy emerges and a foundation is formed for academic success. Umoja actively serves and promotes student success for all students through a curriculum and pedagogy responsive to the legacy of the African and African American Diasporas.
