Showers of Mercy

Mercy Holistic Ministry has meant relief, refreshment, cleanliness and simple humanity 16,000 times over the past five years since the shower trailer was rolled out in January 2021.  Additionally, over 3,000 haircuts have been offered and countless numbers of hygiene, clothing, and devotional items as well as prayers.

The pictured gentleman was one of our first clients who received clean underwear, socks and the cleansing waters of a simple shower.  This luxury which we so easily take for granted is enjoyed just occasionally by people living on the streets, in back alleys, in the woods and alongside rivers in Sacramento, the capital of California, the state with by far the largest population of homeless people.

Churches, Friends of Mercy, funding events, women's groups and granting agencies have generously sustained the work of Mercy Holistic Ministry for five years.  In January 2026 we learned that 29% of our budget will not be funded by a benevolent granting agency as expected.  The federal cuts in support for the homeless caused this agency to rechannel their grants to agencies serving much larger constituencies.

The National Day of Prayer on May 7 coincides with the Big Day of Giving here in Sacramento.  May God inspire you to pray for and financially support the many non-profits who are seeking support.  As the Holy Spirit leads you, would you please pray that the financial shortfall of unfullfilled grant dollars for the Mercy Showers be contributed by people with compassionate hearts to help and encourage God's children living in poverty.
