Thank you for taking the time to visit my Big Day of Giving fundraising page and thank you for your support of Project Lifelong. If you don’t know me, my name is Mike Lindner, and I am the current Secretary of Project Lifelong, with which I have been a volunteer board member for the past 4 years.  Project Lifelong is a Sacramento based nonprofit built around skateboarding, which strives to empower the youth community by offering distinctive, experiential programs that nurture leadership abilities, promote health and well being, while also helping enhance prospects for lifelong success.

Project Lifelong, we believe in the power of positive connections within schools, communities, and peer networks. These connections form the foundation of safe and thriving youth communities. Through our programs like Skate Night, we encourage engagement with peers, to foster new bonds, and create lasting friendships.

As someone who unwrapped their first skateboard (New School Logo Slick deck) on a Christmas morning in ‘94, I find myself 30+ years later still experiencing the joy and passion that I experienced from my first push.  I maintain this passion for all the reasons you would expect but also because skateboarding made me who I am.  It taught me to have patience as I pursued endless attempts at the same trick with almost always the same result. It taught me resilience to not give up during those attempts and to recognize with enough work I would find success. It taught me discipline to stick with what I was passionate about, and it taught me that success sometimes comes at the expense of personal pain and difficulty.  That said, it also taught me that eventual success is so much more rewarding, when you know what you put in, and what it took to achieve.

I have carried these lessons through my life, and they have impacted the dedication and focus that I carry through my day to day.  Whether it be my architectural career, my culinary pursuits, woodworking, snowboarding, fly fishing, rock climbing or even acting as a board member with Project Lifelong, I know that with enough effort, enough focus and enough resilience, I can achieve whatever goals I set for myself. With the younger generations it is clearly evident that the nonstop social media loop, and the terminally online practices of our younger generations is not to their benefit.  Our youth are inundated with negativity and unhealthy online activity.  Knowing what skateboarding has done for my personal development, my character, as well as my physical and mental health, I want to be able to impart this activity to the younger generations and allow them to thrive from it. Skateboarding is more than just a recreational activity; it's a cultural phenomenon that promotes creativity, individualism, resilience, inclusivity, and community. It serves as a platform for self-expression and unites people from diverse backgrounds, making it an equitable passion that brings communities together.

At Project Lifelong, we see great opportunities to grow and to continue to improve.  One project we are currently developing is our Mobile Skate program, which will allow us to extend our reach a swell as our flexibility to serve as many people and communities as possible. With that said, we recognize the inherent need for stability so that we can accurately plan for the future.  The support of individuals like you are instrumental to the evolution of our nonprofit.  We invite you to help us in supporting Project Lifelong and its mission to empower Sacramento's youth. Your donation will not only help us continue our programs but also provide opportunities for meaningful experiences and growth for young people in our community.
