As a mom and educator I’ve seen firsthand the detrimental impacts that excessive screen time and social media are having on our children. Anxiety levels are at an all-time high in youth while attention spans are at an all-time low. It feels like an insurmountable challenge to conquer and I want to be part of the solution, but how to do that in a positive way?

Enter Project Lifelong. When I learned of this organization, I knew immediately this was a place where investing my time and effort could actually affect change. Because as a Skate Mom, I’ve also seen firsthand how thrilling it is for a kid to challenge themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally through skateboarding. I’ve seen the determination and resilience required to land a cool trick, or ANY trick, and the joy and satisfaction that follows. I can confidently say that a kid with a board is never bored!

I believe in the mission so much that I helped recruit participants, including my niece, Ava and her best friend, Mercedes who are pictured. Also pictured is my son Santo supporting Skate Nights as a volunteer. He’s enjoying it as much as the kids and looks forward to helping every week.

If we are going to support our children’s healthy development, it is not enough to limit or discourage their use of screens. We have to provide them with compelling alternatives. Project Lifelong provides access to programs which combine creativity, physical activity, and community so kids can thrive. By giving to this campaign you will help us expand these unique offerings to reach even more kids in Sacramento.
