Help Me Help Our Local Kids

You may be thinking, "Who uses a picture of themself with a kazoo and a stuffed animal for their fundraising page?" I do. Now, you may be thinking, "But why?" Let me explain.  One of my greatest beliefs in life is that we should never lose our sense of fun and whimsy. There is an inner child in all of us. However, in our communities, there are children who are experiencing trauma, detained from their families, and living in a state of constant uncertainty. These children often lose the chance to "just be a kid". That is where CASA comes in.

A Court Appointed Special Advocate does so much more than show up for court. This is a "different kind of adult" in these kids' lives. They are consistent. They are not there to be an authority figure. They are just someone who cares and is in that child's corner. We advocate in schools. We advocate in court. We check to make sure this child's needs are being met. We also make sure they get to experience some childhood. 

We go to the park and fly kites. We advocate to make sure the child stays enrolled in the extra curricular activities they love. We make sure they get a present on their birthday. We ensure they get to celebrate the holidays that are important to them. We encourage their goals. We help them find their sparkle, and hopefully, never lose their sense of fun and whimsy. 

I started as a volunteer with CASA serving my local area (Yuba-Sutter). I loved being a volunteer so much, I applied to work here. It was truly one of the best decisions of my life. I get to wake up everyday knowing I am helping these kids who need it the most (also, we have the most amazing team and volunteers that I am blessed to work with).
