Twenty Years of the Blues Doesn't Happen by Accident

Long before the spotlight finds them, they're already there — in the smoky corner of a downtown club, behind the soundboard at a Sunday jam, handing out flyers for a benefit show, or on stage bending notes that make a room go quiet. For twenty years or more, they've kept the blues alive in Sacramento, not for fame, but because the music mattered enough to show up for, again and again.

Every year, the Sacramento Blues Society honors these people through the SBS Hall of Fame — musicians, vocalists, and the tireless non-performers who never picked up an instrument but built the stages, ran the sound, booked the rooms, and kept the community together. Some are legends whose names you already know. Others worked quietly for decades, the kind of people a scene is built on but rarely thanks.

Each June 1st, the nominations come in — stories of dedication, sacrifice, and love for the blues that deserve to be told out loud. And each year, we gather to tell them.

The Annual Induction Ceremony at Harlow's brings the community together for a night of live blues and heartfelt recognition, honoring the people who made Sacramento's blues scene what it is today. Then the celebration moves to the Torch Club, where past inductees return to the stage alongside this year's honorees for a night of music, memory, and joy that only the blues community can throw.

But keeping this tradition alive — the ceremony, the venues, the artists, the celebration — takes support.
