The Sacramento Blues Society (SBS) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1979. Affiliated with the International Blues Foundation in Memphis, TN, SBS was named Affiliated Blues Society of the Year and was honored with the Keeping The Blues Alive award at the 2015 International Blues Challenge. SBS helps Blues music thrive in the Sacramento area by promoting local blues music and musicians, bringing internationally renowned artists to the region, and educating Sacramento area students about the Blues and its unique American musical, historical, and cultural significance. The current all-volunteer SBS Board of Directors includes professional musicians, community arts advocates, and hardworking good people.

Mission

The Sacramento Blues Society helps Blues Music thrive in the Sacramento area, by promoting the local blues music, supporting local blues musicians, bringing internationally renowned Blues artists to the region, and educating Sacramento area youth about the Blues, a uniquely American music form integral to American history, music, and culture.

Needs

Funding is needed for costs associated with a variety of events, such as:

- $250 will pay for miscellaneous SBS costs

- $300 will pay for sound for Blues event

- $750 will pay for hall rental for Blues events

- $2,000 will cover artist fees and accommodations to bring award-winning musicians to Sacramento

- $4,000 will pay for SBS local band to go to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN

Blues in the Schools

- $550 will bring a live Blues lecture and performance to a Sacramento elementary or high school

- $2,250 will cover costs of the Blues in the Schools Student Showcase

- $10,000 will cover costs of After School Program at 3 Sacramento High Schools

Hall of Fame

- $2,500 will pay for the annual event honoring nominated Sacramento area musician, promoter, venue owner, volunteer

Events

- $3,500 will pay for a Blues event

Blue Notes

- $500 will pay for lay out and distribution of our bi-monthly Blues newsletter

Gene Chambers Crisis Fund

- $100 will restock program for Sacramento Blues musicians in need

Donations of raffle prize items for fundraising such as:

- Gift certificates (for meals, massage, manicure or other personal services, Sacramento River cruise)

- Art or photographs with a musical theme

- Guitars/instruments

- Gift baskets

Other in-kind donations:

- Go Pro Camera to record BITS Assemblies for Training

- Music Sound Equipment for BITS Students

- Services (Poster printing, t shirts fliers, banners, bookkeeping

- Free Venue Space 4-6 hours (for live blues show)

- Free Recording Studio Time/Space for Student Song Writing/ Recording

SBS needs a social media volunteer.

SBS needs to implement a Contact Management System.

Volunteers for all aspects of SBS are needed, welcome and much appreciated
