Aloha! My name is Anolani, and I have had the privilege of studying Hawaiian culture and dancing hula under my Kumu (teacher), Kaponookalani. My hula journey began shortly after moving to Sacramento in October of 2021, when I joined this hālau (school), in search of a new hobby to fill my time. Little did I know that hula was much bigger than that. I quickly learned that “hula IS life”. My hula ‘ohana (family) has played an instrumental part in my hula journey and in helping me understand that very concept. They have also shown me what aloha really is and I am blessed to have a hula ‘ohana that I feel I belong to.

Over the years I have had such memorable learning experiences, including traveling to Hawai’i to learn directly from renowned Kumu hula, Kawaikapuokalani, learning about the rich cultural history at ‘Iolani Palace, and attending workshops where I was taught how to make lei and sew my own lole (costume). Such enriching experiences would not have been possible without the kindness and generosity of donors and supporters of our hālau. I hope to continue my hula journey and share my love of hula with our community. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) for supporting our hālau!
