Jack and Heather: Support Youth Together

Jack's Story

I joined Hands4Hope as a freshman at Oak Ridge High School because I knew some people from middle school that were continuing. I decided to join just to do something interesting with my friends and I never would have guessed the opportunities it provided me.

I joined the school club and really learned what it was about and like to be a part of Hands4Hope and from then on I was hooked. I joined every committee I could to help out the community as much as I could and learn how to lead. I wanted to learn as much as I could about leading groups in real world scenarios which Hands4Hope provided for me. I was actually solving real world problems with a team to try and help out the community in need.

Now as a sophomore I see what Hands4Hope really has done for me as I compare myself now as a sophomore compared to last year. I've grown more confident and understanding in myself as Hands4Hope taught me my strengths and weaknesses. It has given me opportunities to grow and strengthen everything like public speaking and working with large groups. I never would have been able to do this without the resources and opportunities provided by Hands4Hope.

Supporting Hands4Hope would give youth all over El Dorado County the opportunities to learn and grow as leader. It provides youth with the foundation to create and follow through with projects to help out the community and experience what it is like to work with a team towards a goal. Heather's Story

I've had the privilege of serving on the Board of Directors of Hands4Hope – Youth Making A Difference since 2019, most recently as Chair of the Board. But my deepest connection to this organization is what I've witnessed with my own eyes.

I've watched young people walk into Hands4Hope uncertain of themselves and walk out with confidence, compassion, and a sense of purpose they didn't know they had. I've seen the spark that happens when a teenager realizes their voice matters — that they matter. These young people are genuinely awe-inspiring, and being part of their journeys is deeply meaningful to me.

What makes Hands4Hope truly special is who it welcomes. Youth from all backgrounds, all experiences, all stories come together in an environment that is safe, inclusive, and full of possibility. Here, every young person is encouraged to discover their own passion and purpose and are taught the skills needed to pursue both.

Hands4Hope is a youth-driven organization that has served Sacramento and El Dorado Counties since 2008 through Education and Outreach programs. Working alongside adult mentors and using a service-learning strategy, we equip youth with the knowledge and skills to be civic minded and socially responsible.
