In 1979, a small group of people who believed in the power of the blues came together with a simple purpose: to make sure this music — this deeply American art form — would never be forgotten. Nearly half a century later, the Sacramento Blues Society is still carrying that torch, and we need your help to keep it burning.

Music Born From Struggle, Carried by Community

The blues didn't come from nowhere. It rose out of the African-American experience — out of hardship, resilience, and the need to be heard. It's always been more than entertainment. It's been a voice for the oppressed, a call for change, a way to turn pain into something that connects us rather than divides us.

We believe that history matters. We believe the roots of this music deserve to be honored, not erased. And we believe that today, as our community continues working toward peaceful, positive change and greater social justice, the blues still has something urgent to say.

Music can break down barriers that speeches can't. It opens conversations about culture and identity that might not happen any other way. That's the kind of work we're committed to.

What Your Support Makes Possible

The Sacramento Blues Society exists to promote and preserve the blues, and to bring people together across every part of our community — artists, students, schools, venues, promoters, radio, and fans alike. We do this through:

• Live events and performances that keep local and touring blues artists on stage
• Educational programs, including bringing music instruction directly into classrooms
• Community celebrations that welcome everyone, regardless of background, into the spirit of unity the blues represents

None of this happens on its own. Our work is funded by membership fees, sponsorships, grants, and gifts from people like you — and as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and proud affiliate of The Blues Foundation, every donation goes directly toward sustaining this mission.
