🌼 Dolly's Story 🌼

Every time I start to work with the youth at Hands4Hope I remember why I continue to be a part of this organization. The skills that H4H imparts to them is invaluable. I’ve often said if adult organizations had the tools these youth were given, their organizations would run smoother. They learn how to lead, communicate and give back, while being compassionate and inclusive. From the moment I was introduced to H4H, I could tell this was an organization I wanted to be a part of. I am honored to serve on their board and participate in events such as this.

Working with Kalen & Jacob on Big Day of Giving is the perfect example. They are bright caring, articulate and just plain impressive. Please, take a moment and get to know them by reading their story below.

🍉 Jacob's Story 🍉

My name is Jacob Wylie, and I’m excited to be part of Big Day of Giving this year with Hands4Hope. My first outreach volunteering through Hands4Hope was at Mercy Creekview Senior Apartments. I was nervous at first, unsure of how to connect, but the residents greeted me with warm smiles and made me feel at home. I loved serving dinners and hearing their stories. I volunteered there for three years, building meaningful connections and learning valuable lessons about kindness and community. That event was a turning point and opened doors to more opportunities. Today, I’m proud to have over 400 hours of community service.

I started with Hands4Hope in 6th grade, and over the next five years, I took on leadership roles, including secretary and president of the Camerado Springs Middle School Club. In 8th grade, I served as the Youth Board Middle School Representative for the 2022-2023 school year, representing schools across Folsom, El Dorado Hills, and Placerville. Now, as Secretary of the Ponderosa Hands4Hope High School Club, I’m excited to run for president next year and continue making a difference.

Volunteering has shown me my passion for helping others, especially in times of need. My time at Mercy Creekview inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare, and I’m focused on developing the skills to make a meaningful impact through medicine.

🌟 Kalen's Story 🌟

Hi! My name is Kalen Wylie, and I’ve been involved with Hands4Hope for three years now. I joined in 8th grade, hoping to get involved in my community and try something new. What I didn’t expect was how much this organization would end up shaping who I am today. Now, as a high school student, I proudly serve as the treasurer of my school’s Hands4Hope club, and I’m planning to run for vice-president next year.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer at so many incredible events. Some of the most memorable include Empty Bowls, where we raise money and awareness to help fight hunger, and the Winter Boutique, a holiday shopping event where families in need can choose clothes, toys, and gifts at no cost. I’ve also helped at the Fall Festival, which brings joy to families in our community and raises funds for local programs. And that’s just a few of the many events I’ve been lucky enough to be part of.

Every single experience has helped me grow—not just as a volunteer, but as a person. I’ve learned how to communicate better, take initiative, work with others, and be a leader. I’ve also gained a better understanding of the challenges people in our community face, and how important it is to show up, offer support, and be kind. Being part of Hands4Hope has taught me how much of a difference young people can make when we come together for a cause.

Taking on a leadership role as treasurer has pushed me to be more organized, responsible, and confident. It’s been such a rewarding experience, and I’m excited to take on even more responsibility by running for vice-president. I want to keep growing, keep helping, and keep making an impact alongside my fellow youth leaders.

This fundraiser means a lot to me because it helps keep these programs running. It supports the work we do and gives more students the chance to grow through service, just like I did. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story, and for supporting me, Hands4Hope, and the community we all care about.
