Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode – New Shelter & Veterinary Expansion Project

Established in 1992, Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode has spent more than three decades rescuing, sheltering, and providing affordable veterinary care to animals in need. In 2010, we relocated to our current 5,446-square-foot facility in Diamond Springs, California. Today, our work is powered by one full-time veterinarian, 24 full-time support staff, and approximately 350 dedicated volunteers serving El Dorado County.

Over the years, demand for our low-cost spay and neuter services, vaccinations, and rescue programs has grown beyond the capacity of our current facility. We are operating at full capacity, facing overcrowded shelter space, extended wait times for veterinary services, and increasing requests for assistance from pet owners and rescue partners. Despite the dedication of our team, we are limited by space and infrastructure.

To meet this urgent and growing need, Animal Outreach has purchased a new building that will become our expanded home. The new 11,100-square-foot facility will nearly double our space and allow us to hire a second veterinarian and additional support staff, significantly increasing access to affordable veterinary care.

The new facility will enable us to:

  • Expand Veterinary Services– Increase spay/neuter capacity and broaden access to low-cost medical care
  • Increase Shelter Space– Provide improved, best-practice housing for more cats and kittens
  • Improve Facility Design– Create efficient workflows, enhanced sanitation, and a welcoming adoption environment
  • Enhance Community Engagement– Offer accessible spaces for adoptions, education, and outreach programs

This expansion represents a critical turning point for our organization. With increased capacity and improved infrastructure, we will be able to serve more animals, support more families, extend services to neighboring counties, and continue making measurable progress in reducing pet overpopulation and promoting responsible pet ownership.

With the support of compassionate donors and corporate partners, Animal Outreach will ensure that every animal who comes through our doors receives the safety, care, and opportunity they deserve.
