In January, AIFC celebrated its 25th year of operation and surpassed the milestone of providing over 5 million meals to our community. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and generosity of our volunteers and supporters. Throughout the past year, we recorded the highest number of volunteer hours in our history and exceeded our income projections, ensuring that we could continue to meet the needs of those facing food insecurity as a 100% volunteer organization.
Our community faces ongoing challenges, with up to 12% of residents in our service area experiencing food insecurity. The rising costs of fuel, housing, and food have made it increasingly difficult for many families to make ends meet. In 2024, we supported the second highest number of families in our history, providing essential food assistance to help them stretch their budgets. We expect at least a 10% increase in need this year, and reduction in food through Federal programs that we can share with our guests.
These families are a cross-section of the community. It includes seniors living on fixed income, in many cases homebound and needing the make painful decisions on how to spend limited income each month. Others are young families with both adults working in lower pay jobs, living paycheck to paycheck. Others are young adults, out on their own for the first time, struggling but striving to make it on their own.
I invite you to give this fundraiser, to make a difference in the lives of my neighbors.
