$20,000 Goal

The RRUFF Healing Heroes Program seeks to provide Disabled American Veterans and First Responders with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other invisible disabilities the funds needed for all aspects of service dog training to aid in their recovery efforts and to create awareness within our local community and beyond of the needs in terms of restoring normalcy to their post-service lives with the aid of service dogs.  RRUFF Healing Heroes is active in the Greater Sacramento Region, offering disabled veterans and first responders the opportunity to receive the support they so richly deserve.  The original purpose of RRUFF was to raise funds to establish the first off-leash dog park in the City of Rocklin, California. We successfully raised the needed funds to build and maintain this park and continue to provide this support today.  Additionally, a Special Needs Area was created to offer Service Dog Training when needed, to host adoption days for local rescue organizations, to provide a space for breed-specific meetup groups, and to host special veteran and dog park events.

Giving Activity

Mission

Serving Disabled Veterans and the Canine Community.

Needs

$60,000 to fund service dog training for 10 Disabled American Veterans and First Responders in 2024. The classes teach intensive obedience training, public access requirements, specific tasks, and more. Classes are held weekly and run for at least one year.

$4,000 for the purchase of one (1) dog, plus genetic testing, to breed the dog for the program. The success rate for service dogs is highly dependent on breed standards, temperament, genetic factors, etc. Having appropriately bred dogs will be critical to the overall graduation success rate.

$10,000 for the Pawsability Fund that provides veterinary care for dogs while in the program, including spaying, neutering, Puppy Wellness Packages, emergency veterinary care, dog acquisition costs, and other related veterinary care as needed.

$50,000—Hire two part-time employees—an Executive Director and a Development/Fundraising Director. Currently, we are 100% volunteer-run. The program is growing, and this addition would free our time to focus on the most important work we do—raising money for the Heroes we serve.

In-Kind - audio-video equipment, PowerPoint projector, laptop computer, donor management volunteer.
