Single Mom Strong

35% of children in Sacramento County are being raised by single moms. Despite mothers' best efforts, statistics show that these children suffer in a variety of ways from educational deficiencies to having lower occupational status and income as adults, among other issues. Meanwhile, the single mothers are plagued by feelings of guilt and inadequacy and often these families are living in poverty. Single mothers make impossible choices every day. We are here to make their paths just a bit easier. We are here to change the outcomes for their children.

Our programs are based on the premise that a single mother can be a professional "success" and a great parent, and the belief that neither the single mother nor her children are limited by this circumstance. Our single mothers are given the tools and encouragement needed to achieve their goals, while their children build relationships with positive male role models and a close knit "community" of mothers. Additionally, we are addressing the lack of affordable, quality preschool and childcare in the region, with our EmpowerME Preschool & Childcare programs.

Single Mom Strong is a local nonprofit organization with a mission to empower and create community for single mothers and their children through enrichment, encouragement and educational programs. It takes a village to raise a child and for single mothers, Single Mom Strong is that village.

Our goal is to provide scholarships for our Summer Break Camps, a solution for quality care for school-age kids when school is out for summer. We will need a minimum of $8,000 for salaries and supplies to host the camps and offer scholarships to at least 8 children per week, or 48 children over the course of the summer.

Support is needed for our Empowerment Workshop series development for our single mothers as well as our Men's Mentoring team that supports children of single mothers.

Positive male role models who are interested in impacting the lives of local children are encouraged to volunteer once per month for 90-120 minutes on our Men's Mentoring Team. Here we provide examples of male figures who consistently "show up" for our children.
