Yolo County Seniors Deserve to EAT: Eat, Age, Thrive
The Meals on Wheels Yolo County Board of Directors are volunteers committed to nourishing and engaging our aging neighbors. We are collaborating to maximize the Big Day of Giving because we know that sustaining Yolo Countyβs rapidly growing senior population means sustaining MOW Yolo.
The "Silver Tsunami" is Here
The local senior population is growing rapidly as the Baby Boom generation ages. By 2030, seniors are projected to outnumber children in Yolo County. At the same time, access to public food assistance is becoming less reliable.
The reality of the need:
8,100+ Yolo County seniors live in poverty and experience food insecurity and this number is growing rapidly as the Baby Boomers age.
Government sources provide only 15% of MOW Yolo's annual budget.
MOW Yolo's mission is community-powered: It is neighbors helping neighbors. People like you who provide the vast majority of our funding.
Progress and Purpose
In 2026, MOW Yolo has already cleared the path for 200+ previously waitlisted seniors to join our program. We are now striving to provide as many as 1,400 aging adults with the opportunity to predictably Eat, Age, and Thrive in their own homes safely and with dignity.
MOW Yolo is the only provider meeting the needs of those who cannot travel to a store or physically prepare their own food. We serve all seniors regardless of income or immigration statusβfocusing purely on the human need for nutrition and connection.
Our Strategic Path Forward
Our work is guided by a Strategic Plan (updated through 2028) developed by our Board and staff leadership. Your Big Day of Giving investment directly fuels these four critical goals:
Goal 1: Nourish and Engage More Seniors in More Communities
Goal 2: Increase Funding to Achieve Economic Sustainability
Goal 3: Expand Organizational Capacity
Goal 4: Attract, Value, and Retain Talented Staff and Volunteers
Join the Boardβs $17,500 Challenge
As a Board, our goal is to raise $17,500 toward MOW Yolo's overall $175,000 Big Day of Giving goal by midnight on May 7th. With approximately 85% of our funding coming from local generosity, your gift is the primary fuel to power the engine of our mission to ensure all seniors EAT: Eat, Age, Thrive.
Many of these seniors have devoted their lives to shaping our community. Now, it is our turn to show our gratitude. Your generosity ensures we can provide fresh local food, medically tailored options, and friendly visits that combat the tragic health consequences of isolation.
Letβs Sustain Seniors to "EAT: Eat, Age, Thrive" together in Yolo County in 2026!
