For more than a decade, our programs have kept children and young people safe during the after school hours when they are most at risk - and much more! Students are improving their academic performance, strengthening their interpersonal skills, and experiencing opportunities that would otherwise be prohibitively expensive for their families. Our programs reconnect neighborhoods with schools and help parents become better partners in their children's education.
Financial support is needed to assist with increasing costs under new legislation. With the new Paid Sick Leave law and minimum wage increases, costs have increased dramatically but there have not been any increases in our contracts. In order to maintain the quality of the program and the range of services, we are seeking supplemental funding.
- Organization-wide, the cost of complying with these requirements, and providing increases in line with the change, is $225,000. We aim to retain quality staff for consistency in our after school program.
- Financial support is needed to enhance and increase the range of services. Target Excellence needs more arts and sports programming at each site. The cost is $9,000 annually, totaling $135,000.
- Funding is needed for additional college readiness activities. Our kids need to be college and career ready. Our students need skills to prepare for any career like basic writing, planning, leadership speaking, problem-solving, collaborations skills and more.
- Funding the cost of the journals used in the program would be a tremendous help at $5.00 per student, totaling $7,500.
- Volunteers and vendor/donor partnerships, particularly in the area of the Arts, to round out our comprehensive programming at our after school sites.

'Target Excellence is the recognized expert in administering effective holistic after-school programs, professional development and parent education programs. Students are fully engaged in a joyful learning experience. Students/families are empowered to succeed and realize goals and dreams. Parents feel empowered to set standards in the home and monitor the progress of their students. Target Excellence was founded based on my experiences as a youth. "I was not the best student in High School and had no plans for the future that were close to the potential that I could achieve. My life was changed forever by a counselor who voluntarily reached out, gave encouragement, and helped me plan for the future." Upon graduation, I worked as an engineer for the California Department of Transportation. While working there I was asked to speak to High School students about science. "This was my ah-ha moment and the birth of Target Excellence. It was so easy and enjoyable that I did it for free. Soon I received so much recognition for my work that people paid me!!"'

'The key points here are as follows: The Counselor was positive (she believed in me and had high expectations) and proactive (she had a plan for my development), I found something that I loved to do, I could not put a price on her efforts or my efforts in Target Excellence. Target Excellence is dedicated to administering quality programs (not just babysitting) that help kids to identify their vision. It starts with an expectation that may be higher than what a student expects for themselves. The next important step is to make sure we have some type of daily, weekly, quarterly, and yearly plan in place that everyone and anyone can understand. Kids learn quicker when there is a set plan or routine in place, similar to sports or the military. The last thing we need to do is measure to make sure we are effective and make changes in area where we can improve.'

Sincerely,
