I support Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area because I believe in the power of mentorship, and because I’ve experienced it firsthand as a Big Sister to Jayda for over 4 years. I’m also proud to serve on the Board of Directors, supporting this mission in an even deeper way.

Over the years, we’ve done so much together, from behind-the-scenes tours at the zoo to painting pottery, sailing, eating sushi (countless times), crafting, making bracelets, seeing plays, and even sitting in a suite at Golden 1 Center for Disney on Ice, the Harlem Globetrotters, and Kings games. But truly, some of our best moments are just talking and laughing for hours. 

I love being Jayda’s safe space. Having a trusted adult outside of your family is such an invaluable thing. If you think about it, most of us can name at least one adult who made a difference in our lives growing up. I know I wouldn’t be who I am today without the people who encouraged my love for animals and helped shape my path.

To be that person for a child, someone they can lean on, laugh with, cry to, and trust, is such a privilege and an honor. It’s one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever done.
