The Sacramento Gay Men's Chorus (SGMC) cultivates joy through artistic excellence, fostering belonging, and uplifting the LGBTQIA+ community. We envision a vibrant regional community where the Sacramento Gay Men's Chorus is a beacon of artistic excellence and LGBTQIA+ visibility, inspiring social change, and a legacy of inclusion through the joy of music.
The Sacramento Gay Men's Chorus, established in 1984, began as an organization dedicated to building community and offering support for gay men within the Sacramento region. Over time, the chorus has expanded in membership and inclusivity, welcoming all individuals capable of performing in the TTBB vocal range. Its members represent the widest spectrum, including women, non-binary and transgender individuals, as well as straight allies all added to the mix of our original group dynamic, creating unlimited joy through song.
Through musical performances and outreach efforts, the chorus has become a significant presence in Sacramento’s music scene and serves as a representative voice for the diverse LGBTQIA+ community within the area. SGMC actively addresses intolerance and discrimination by fostering positive experiences and promoting understanding through its activities. The organization is committed to creating an enjoyable and affirming environment for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their allies who share a passion for music. Currently comprising over 140 members, the chorus maintains a strong emphasis on musical quality and engaging choreography. Annually, SGMC presents several concerts, participates in numerous community events and benefits, and organizes “pop-up” performances across the Sacramento community.
