Help CRLAF support its legal fellow to be brought on full-time!

California (CA) is home to nearly 885,000 farmworkers working a year, 51% of whom are undocumented. These rural communities are farmworkers, low-wage workers, undocumented individuals, and mixed-status families experiencing high poverty, immigration vulnerability, limited English proficiency, all while experiencing low access to legal representation.

These communities are concentrated in areas labeled “legal deserts”, where access to attorneys is significantly low. While CA’s overall attorney-to-population ratio in urban areas is estimated to be 1:175, in rural areas it averages 1:626. These “legal deserts” are structural barriers to justice.

CRLAF’s Legal Fellow is an indigenous language-speaking advocate who has dedicated her 3L year serving farmworker communities and wants to return to her home in the Central Coast after graduation. Bringing her on to our team full time would strengthen our communities’ collective legal power.

Recently, she shared that witnessing the tangible outcomes of effective and culturally responsive legal advocacy has deepened her desire to pursue employment law within the public interest sector, and allows her to serve her own community, motivated by pride in her roots and recognition of the power of the law to protect and uplift those who need it most.

Please consider supporting her journey today!
