Mentorship has the power to change lives—and I’ve seen that impact firsthand.

Seven and a half years ago, after moving to Sacramento, I got involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area. Not long after, I was matched with an energetic eight-year-old named Braylin. From our very first outing, we clicked—and that connection has grown into something truly special.

Over the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of watching Braylin grow, learn, and come into his own. Whether we’re playing basketball, hitting the bowling lanes, spending a day at the beach, or just working through homework together, every moment has mattered. What means the most to me is knowing that he sees me as a safe space—someone he can trust, rely on, and be himself around.

Being a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made. This experience has not only impacted Braylin’s life—it’s changed mine too.

Right now, more than 100 children in our community are waiting for a mentor—waiting for someone to show up, to listen, and to believe in them.
