August 14, 2025 --

Our Volunteer Garden Club began mid-June, meeting weekly for eight weeks, to weed and finally mulch the garden beds in the historic garden at Sugar Pine Point State Park in Lake Tahoe, California.

Mulch acts as a weed suppression and adds to the beautification of the park. This was a big endeavor and milestone. The next step will be planting historically accurate perennial flowers in the garden beds next spring!

The Sierra State Parks Foundation is requesting funds to rehabilitate the historic gardens at the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion. Funds will be used to purchase native plants, mulch, and other supplies to restore the gardens to a lush and full appearance as they would have looked under the care of Florence Ehrman!

SSPF's volunteer Garden Club works diligently throughout the summer to help California State Parks maintain the historic garden areas. They will install the native plants late in the summer after thoughtful weeding and maintenance throughout the summer. Thank you to our wonderfully dedicated volunteers!
