It was so unexpected. Our student went to court with his mother who thought she was doing the right thing by showing up. They had used every penny of their money, borrowed more, and used credit cards to pay one attorney, then another. The attorney didn't file on time despite the family paying $15k+. The family couldn't even read the documents that had been given to them in a language they didn't understand. Result: the mom and her son were immediately deported.
Only 11 yrs old, he was so excited about his upcoming birthday. He had just learned how to play soccer and American football. He told his teacher, he wanted to invite the entire school to his birthday. We're fundraising to have a birthday for him remotely! A big cake for everyone and film it for him to see on his birthday. Then, hopefully, with the remaining funds, find one decent attorney who will fight for their rights.
