Every family deserves access to fresh, healthy food—yet thousands of refugee and immigrant families in Sacramento live in food deserts where nutritious produce is out of reach. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Sacramento is tackling this crisis through its New Roots program, which supports over 90 refugee clients with urban farming, community gardening, and nutrition education.

To expand access to affordable, organic, and culturally familiar produce, IRC is launching the New Roots Market Truck: a refrigerated mobile farmers market that brings farm-fresh produce grown by refugee farmers directly into underserved neighborhoods. This innovative truck will operate in areas with limited grocery access, enabling off-hour market setups and accepting CalFresh/EBT to ensure affordability for working families.

More than a truck, this is a community lifeline—bringing nourishment, dignity, and opportunity to over 3,500 low-income individuals each year while uplifting refugee farmers. With your support, we can ensure no family has to choose between nutrition and survival.

The IRC in Sacramento is seeking to raise $75,000 to launch its Mobile Market initiative, a transformative step toward ensuring fresh, healthy, and culturally familiar food reaches families living in Sacramento’s food deserts.

Of this total, $50,000 will go toward the purchase of a reliable, used 2020–2022 RAM refrigerated truck—essential for safely transporting organic produce grown by refugee farmers. An additional $15,000 will be used to outfit the truck with a branded vehicle wrap, market accessories, and storage equipment to ensure safe, dignified, and efficient food delivery.

Your support will help nourish thousands while uplifting refugee farmers.
