Founded in 2009, Sisters of Nia is an organization dedicated to serving adolescent girls in grades 6, 7, and 8 living in urban communities. Through the teaching of Afrocentric Values, Sisters of Nia aims to empower socially and economically disadvantaged girls with cultural and educational programs that are designed to encourage strong social and leadership skills, as well as Academic Excellence.
Sisters of Nia is open to girls of all ethnicities and backgrounds. The program began with only 12 girls; and at full capacity, has 36 girls enrolled. There are over 80 alumnae, and this program has served 400+ youth, both boys and girls, through annual youth leadership conferences, talent shows, and summer performing arts camps. Their data has also shown that participation in this three-year program leads to greater emotional maturity, stronger decision making, and more positive relationships for the members. The activities and lessons are based on researched theory, and the program culminates in eighth grade with a college tour and Rites of Passage ceremony for the girls.
Please support this outstanding, local organization as they raise funds to continue doing incredible work for our community. Thank you!
