DID YOU KNOW -
Girls confidence begins to significantly drop at the age of 9 years old?!
AND - in a CDC study found that a staggering 60% of teenage girls report feeling persistently sad or helpless—double the number of boys and a sharp rise from 37% in 2017.
Girls are telling us they need our help.
As a girl mom - these statistics are STAGGERING! What's even more staggering - I actually heard a 5 year old girl recently tell someone that "she's not beautiful." :(
I've been a staunch advocate for Girls On The Run the last 5 years, and my passion only continues to grow as I add more girls to our family :) AND how I see the program change lives.
TRUE STORY FROM A SACRAMENTO TEAM-
Because this program was brough to a school, a 9 year old's life was completely changed. Here's a very brief summary of that story - After a lesson of learning about her "star power" (what makes us unique), the team also learned that sometimes "clouds" can dim your star power. Clouds can be negative self talk, having a bad day, doing poorly on a test, etc... The lessons goes on to teach how you can over come those clouds by positive self talk. When asked to share their "Clouds," this girl refused to share (which is totally fine!). After the lesson, the girl slipped her "Clouds" onto the coach's desk (who happened to be a teacher at the school). When the coach came to work the next morning, she saw the clouds, which said "I don't deserve to be in this world." IMAGINE a 9 year old feeling this way?!
Because Girls On The Run was brought to her school, she was able to identify this major cloud that was dimming her Star Power, and she was able to communicate this to someone she trusted. That person, reached out to the necessary resources at the school, got the family and teachers involved, and this girl learned she had a community of people who supported her.
The best part of this story - the girl experienced a complete 180 and finished the program with her star power shinning bright and herself feeling confident, supported and loved.
This program truly changes lives.
BIG DAY OF GIVING - is our major fundraiser, that allows us to continue to bring this program to girls and to expand to new communities.
Every dollar count. Please help us change the trajectory of girls, and help me reach my goal!
