Creating Welcome for Refugees (Jeff C.)

For more than 35 years, World Relief Sacramento (WRS) has stood as a pillar of hope and transformation for refugees and immigrants across our region. My own journey with WRS began over a decade ago, thanks to an introduction from my former pastor, David George. I have been able to work alongside incredibly dedicated staff and meet so many new families.  It has been a blessing to come alongside them, often for just a short time, to support them in their journey.  Since I began as a volunteer and now advisory council member, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact of the work of WRS—work that extends far beyond resettlement to encompass education, employment support, and vital immigration legal services. Through these comprehensive programs, WRS has helped thousands of individuals and families rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.

At the heart of WRS’s mission lies a deep commitment to the biblical call to welcome the stranger. By partnering with local congregations and individuals, WRS creates meaningful connections between churches/individuals and our newest neighbors, fostering a spirit of hospitality and belonging. In a time when public discourse is often fraught with uncertainty and division about what it means to live out one’s faith in America, WRS provides a clear, compassionate path forward. Their work honors the inherent worth of every person, challenges the Church to advocate for the vulnerable, and urges our leaders to pursue policies rooted in justice and mercy.
