Iu Mien Community Services

Hello everyone! On this Big Day of Giving, I’m  fundraising for one of the nonprofit organizations that is near and dear to my heart. Twenty years ago, I volunteered at Iu Mien Community Services (IMCS) (IG: @iumiencommunity) to fulfill my undergraduate studies at California State University, Sacramento, and I grew to love the organization and its participants. Today, I continue to volunteer for IMCS and serve as a board member. 

In 2004, I began my volunteer work with IMCS and assisted the Program Coordinator with administering the senior program on a weekly basis in the morning before I attend my classes. At IMCS, I was introduced to the most caring and fun-loving group of seniors who welcomed me into their space with open arms. I cherished them as my own aunts and uncles, mothers and fathers, and grandparents. How lucky am I to be blessed with additional family members! 

IMCS provides seniors with a safe space for social interaction and, more importantly, it allows them to connect with folks from their own community who shared the same traumas and experiences to improve their mental health and wellbeing with cultural responsive services and activities. Watching them reminisce and seeing how happy they are amongst each other made me realized the benefits and significance of the program and services provided by IMCS to our seniors. For this reason, I continue to support this impactful community organization over the past 20 years!

On this Big Day of Giving, I am asking you to please make a donation from your heart to Iu Mien Community Services, so we can continue our important work and fulfill our mission of creating a healthy community by providing culturally relevant program and services to the “aunts and uncles, mothers and fathers, and grandparents” of our community.
