Brian's PCC Fundraiser

I'd like to share with you about an organization I've been involved with for some time called Putah Creek Council (PCC).  PCC's mission is to support regional ecosystems through advocacy, education, and community based stewardship. Having been involved in creek science education in my past life as a middle-school teacher, I understand the value of this great resource that we have that is Putah Creek.

I started my involvement with PCC around 2011 at a spring creek cleanup.  This is an annual event where volunteers from around the area remove dumped items and trash in and around the creek.  I was very impressed with the community involvement in this activity and how much people cared about the health of the creek enough to get involved in such a direct way. 

Later I joined in with PCC stewardship activities and became active in restoration around the creek through invasive removal and establishing native plants in the area. Again, I'm moved and inspired by all the volunteers who have come out and joined us in these activities that are so critical to the well-being of creek.

The scope of PCC's activities go well beyond what I've described above and include activities for school-aged children as well as the One Creek program which allows college students to gain experience in restoration, stewardship, and nursery work.  Also, of course, the native plant nursery at Sackett Ranch plays a big role in our activities; the move by PCC to Sackett Ranch has allowed it to expand its growing operations to provide important native plants for restoration work.

As the chair of the board of directors, I'm so proud of all the work PCC has done and continues to do.  As we grow, donor financial support is critical, especially for our nursery operations and improvements that are needed.  I hope you'll consider joining me in contributing anytime between now and May 5th to Putah Creek Council for Big Day of Giving as we look forward to a bright future ahead!
