Miles That Matter - Road 2 CIM

This December, I'm running a marathon for Runnin' for Rhett.

Rhett Seevers was the youngest of Beth and Randy’s children. At just four months old, he was diagnosed with severe cerebral palsy. Though he faced tremendous challenges and could never walk, run, or jump, Rhett’s radiant smile and determination touched everyone around him. His family devoted themselves fully to his care until his unexpected passing at only seven years old. 

As the first anniversary of his death approached, Beth was introduced to running. On the exact day Rhett had passed the year before—she laced up her shoes and completed a half marathon. The experience became a turning point. Inspired by Rhett’s spirit, she invited friends and family to join her the following year, and the movement quickly grew from a handful of supporters to hundreds of runners wearing baby blue shirts in his honor. 

This tribute eventually became the nonprofit Runnin’ for Rhett, dedicated to carrying forward Rhett’s legacy. The organization now inspires thousands across the Sacramento area, encouraging people of all ages to move, stay active, and embrace what Rhett longed to do but could not. Their mission is to let Rhett’s story uplift those who are struggling, motivate them to take that first step, and move into life with strength and hope. 

Through Runnin’ for Rhett’s Youth Fitness Program, free 5K training, running shoes, mentorship, and the opportunity to cross their own finish lines are provided —many of whom are running for the first time. 

I am honored to run the California International Marathon (CIM) in Rhett’s memory and to partner with Runnin’ for Rhett to carry his legacy forward.  

As I train for my marathon, I carry their energy with me. Every early morning, every long run, every sore muscle—it’s all worth it to help kids move into life, just like I am.
