I didn’t expect a volunteer opportunity to change my life, but it did.
I started as a volunteer at Iu Mien Community Services (IMCS), simply hoping to give a little of my time. But what I found was so much more. When I began working more closely with IMCS, especially with the senior program, I fell in love....not just with the work, but with the people.
Although I am not Mien, I was welcomed with open arms. I found a community filled with kindness, resilience, and deep care for one another. I watched elders laugh together, share stories, and find connection in a space that honors their culture and history. I saw how much these moments matter.
IMCS isn’t just a nonprofit, it’s a lifeline. For over 30 years, it has supported thousands of Iu Mien families in Sacramento through culturally responsive programs, education, and social services that help preserve identity, strengthen families, and build a healthier future.
But none of this happens without support.
Programs like the senior group, where elders gather, stay active, and feel less alone. It depends on community generosity. Donations help provide resources, create safe spaces, and ensure that no one is forgotten.
I’ve seen firsthand the impact. I’ve felt it.
If you’ve ever wondered whether your donation makes a difference, it does. It shows someone they are seen, valued, and not alone.
Please consider giving to IMCS this Big Day of Giving. Be part of something that truly changes lives, because it changed mine.
