At LapCats, our mission has always been clear: spay and neuter, no matter what. Why? Because it’s the most effective way to stop the endless cycle of suffering and needless euthanasia in shelters.

Every year, thousands of cats and kittens face uncertain futures — abandoned on the streets or euthanized simply because there aren’t enough homes. By preventing unwanted litters, we give those already waiting in shelters and rescues a real chance at the love and life they deserve.

It’s a matter of simple economics — supply and demand. When animals are overpopulated, they’re often seen as disposable — no longer cherished companions, but burdens. Spaying and neutering restores their value by reducing the numbers and allowing every cat a better chance at being seen, loved, healthy, and adopted.

We now have an exciting opportunity to expand our impact by working with a local mobile Spay/Neuter bus. At reduced costs of $5,000 per day, it will allow us to alter 40–45 cats in a single day. That might not sound like a lot, but the results speak volumes. In March 2025, during our LapCats Spay Day, we fixed 45 cats from underserved communities — 20 females and 25 males — and prevented an estimated 57 births. Every single female was either pregnant or in heat. These numbers are not just statistics — they represent suffering prevented and lives saved.

Each cat was rescued, transported, spayed or neutered, and then either returned to their home or welcomed into our adoption program if a safe return wasn’t possible.

However, many cats couldn’t get help that day — we simply didn’t have enough surgery slots. We’re continuing to add them every week until this project is complete. But time is not on our side. These cats can’t press pause on reproduction. Every delay means more kittens born into a cycle of hardship.

We want to do this again and again. In fact, we dream of offering affordable, low-cost Spay/Neuter every single day — but we can’t do it alone.
