Listen, I'm a single mother of two amazing children, I'm a Glam Ma to the smartest 2 year old in the world, I'm a dog lover and I'm a full time career woman. Trust me when I tell you, there aren’t many things I can commit my time to unless it's my passion!
Access Sacramento didn’t pop up on my radar until a friend shared his experience with me. I was excited to learn all about the Film course he'd taken and how that training lead to the launch his successful videography business.
As I began to dig a little deeper into what they were offering, I discovered the Radio Programming course. Prior to him passing away, the class was taught by Mr. Shane Carpenter, Program Director for 30+ years. I was floored when I saw the studio. Not only had radio been my passion since I was featured as a teen rapper on 106.1 fm KMEL’s Battle of the Rappers back in the 90's, being in the studio felt surreal. Seeing the board, the microphone, CD player and turntable was the only sign I needed to "get behind the mic" once again.
Not long before I discovered Access, I’d also been the Sales & Marketing Coordinator for the California Black Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Foundation, a (501 c3) who owned and operated 97.7 fm kdee lp, now known as 97.5 fm. While job hunting, I came across a volunteer opportunity at the Chamber and within 30 short days, Ms. Delores Thompson, V.P. of Operations and Mr. Aubry Stone, President & CEO offered me a once in a lifetime career opportunity and the rest as they say, is HERstory.
As I'm sure you can imagine, by the time I found Access, I knew God was up to something. I'll never forget the first time I met Shane. Although I didn't have a car at the time, I didn’t allow that to deter me. Learning how to navigate public transit became second nature after a while. My mission was clear, finish what you started. By that point, I'd attended his class on three times, yet I still lacked the confidence to launch my show. It wasn't long before Shane pulled me aside and insisted that I take the plunge, so I did it!
February 1, 2016, I was ready to launch Dee McCoy Radio. Since then, I’ve had the honor of interviewing some phenomenal people both locally and abroad. Topics include: Co-Parenting, Self-Love, Motivational Speaking, Self-Care, Entrepreneurship, Personal Development & Coaching, Mental Health, Health & Wellness, Indie Musicians, Couples Navigating Marriage, Youth Mentors, Activists, Promoters, Non-Profits, Fellow Radio Hosts, Gospel Artists, Social Media Influencers, Spiritual Leaders, my children and the list goes on and on. One of my most memorable guests was Miss Monique Hart, a former contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race back in 2018.
In addition, to my signature sound, amazing content and unique interview style, I buffer my show with the world’s most amazing music. Like come on? Where else can you hear Trap Rappers, like NLE Choppa and Lauryn Hill featured in the same show? My upbeat and positive personality has the power to set the tone for your day and my Mission hasn't changed since the launch of my show. Educate! Empower! Change!
