Located at the Sutter Health Mosaic Center, the Mercy Coalition of West Sacramento offers trauma informed programming for those impacted by substance-use disorders, homelessness, mental health illnesses and other vulnerabilities.  Whether receiving services at the City of West Sac's Project Homekey, participating in healing Recovery Circles at the Recovery Cafe, or learning new job skills at the School for Recovery or JAM (Jobs and Mentoring) Academy, the Mercy Coalition truly has a place for everyone from all walks of life - a restorative community where everyone has a sustainable pathway to physical, emotional and spiritual shelter, and where acceptance and encouragement are the two resources that encase every other.

******

When I first came to work with the Mercy Coalition, I expected to feel like an outsider, eating alone in the lunchroom and being picked last for kickball by virtue of my position as a newbie.  Additionally, as a new member of management, I expected a reasonable amount of apprehension and distrust as the organization, along with myself, navigated this new change in a period of immense growth.  These things are very natural, very human, when introducing a new variable to an existing dynamic. However, What I found was quite the contrary.

The staff at the Mercy Coalition, many of whom are paid interns from our target population, truly embody the values of this organization, and their passion for the work we do is evident in every encounter.  They are warm, welcoming, eager to learn and committed to a cause that is greater than any single individual.  They are shining examples of restorative community - a concept that governs our every interaction, fuels our passion, and motivates us each and every day to do better in every possible way.

Out of the Mercy Coalition's passion, a new vision has begun to grow. In collaboration with the Center for Land Based Learning, the seeds of an urban farm have already been planted next to the current site of the Recovery Cafe. Additionally, a dream of supportive housing units which offer additional pathways to employment has begun to take shape. This campus, the Mosaic Village, would be a campus of trauma-informed services and supports, with the cafe at the center of it all. We've begun to imagine an interdependent, inclusive ecosystem of health, hope and healing, where every part contributes to the wellness and vibrancy of the next.

Thanks to the hard work of the Mercy Coalition staff and the support of our partners, the Mosaic Village is no longer just a dream - it is right around the corner.  But we can't do it without the support of donors like you!

I didn't just get a new job, I joined a community.  I hope you'll consider joining me in being a part of this community with your donation on this Big Day of Giving!
