I have been a part of the Safe Black Space Village since its inception in 2018 after the murder of Stephon Clark by Sacramento Police Department.

Following our first circle April 7, 2018, I took on the secretary role, spearheading the development of the Mind, Body, Spirit Resource List--which has become a widely used reference for individuals and communities seeking Black-centered, Black-affirming mental, physical, and spiritual resources throughout Greater Sacramento.

In 2019, I assumed the position as Vice President, supporting Dr. Kristee Haggins in her role as President, recruiting and training new village members.

In 2024, I gratefully and delightfully accepted the invitation to become President of the organization, with the intention to grow our board membership, trained circle facilitators, expand our reach, and deepen our impact.

The powerful impact SBS has made on my life--as a Black woman, mother, activists, and community caregiver--has compelled me to commit much of my time, efforts, experience (expertise), and skills to supporting its growth. Safe Black Space offers a place for Black people from all walks of life to feel at home. The genuine love, compassion, unity, and unapologetic celebration of Blackness provides a sense of hope for all who share time and space with the SBS village. The tools and resources shared during SBS gatherings empower Black people to actively engage in their own healing from generational trauma and its consequences.

I believe in the work of SBS and have a deep love and respect for the village of beautiful and extraordinary Black folks dedicated to carrying out the collective mission. I'm deeply grateful and honored to be a part of the SBS family and I look forward to supporting its growth and sustainability.

Please consider donating to SBS in support of our mission to help Black people heal from racial trauma, individually and collectively.
