This is an exciting time for our region and an opportunity to be part of something that we can all enjoy with great pride for helping to make a state-of-the-art zoo a reality for the animals and for generations of zoo-goers!As a proud former Sacramento Zoo Trustee, I understand and support the need for a new zoo. The Sacramento Zoo is nearly 100 years-old, with much of its infrastructure and many of its animal habitats dating back 60 to 100 years. Due to aging facilities that prohibit long-term sustainability, a landlocked 14.7-acre footprint with no option for the necessary expansion needed to maintain a viable zoo, and the need to provide animals of all species and sizes with more room and more modern accommodations, the zoo is not able to remain in Land Park and a new, modern, and much larger zoological park is imperative.

Through a public-private partnership with the City of Elk Grove, the Sacramento Zoological Society will be able to create expansive natural habitats, bolster conservation programs, and allow the zoo to better serve its educational mission by accommodating a million visitors per year from throughout our region and beyond. Not only that, but the New Zoo will include amazing safari experiences such as a restaurant and event center that will overlook a multi-species savanna and opportunities to stay overnight or meet endangered species behind the scenes …all of this and more right here in our region! And the best part is, these opportunities will help ensure a variety of rare, threatened, and endangered species from around the world will continue to thrive and educate zoo visitors of all ages for generations to come.

The Capital Cup adapts the historic Ryder Cup format—steeped in tradition—to promote community pride, healthy competition, and raise money for the Sacramento region’s most deserving charities. Each year, leaders from the Sacramento region are divided into two teams for an exciting 3-day golf competition. Donors have the opportunity to support their favorite player (or their favorite charity), as each player is competing to benefit his or her favorite charitable organization. When it well surpassed that goal, the tournament committee raised the bar, and has continued to do so every year since—and every year, the participating golfers exceed expectations.
