Bringing Art & People Together

The Pence Gallery is a non-profit organization located in the heart of Downtown Davis. This year we are celebrating the Pence’s 50th Anniversary, a landmark achievement that we are so proud to have reached with the support of our community. The gallery has come a long way through the decades, from the major building expansion in 2005, to the development of a highly active exhibit & programming schedule, along with the coordination of multiple major fundraisers and events throughout each year. As the Pence continues to grow, we also feel the pinch of rising costs in the face of much-needed funding or upgrades that need to be addressed. 

This year, funds raised through Big Day of Giving will support three major goals. Facility Security: With the recent increase in vandalism in the area, improving the gallery’s security is crucial—we aim to upgrade our indoor/outdoor lighting system and install additional security cameras. Educational Programming: Our Art in Action & ArtSmart programs have a strong demand, but supply expenses are increasing for the gallery—we want to make sure that the programs remain affordable for students and families, and that we have enough funding to prevent cutting workshops or field trips. Exhibition Funding: We host 15+ exhibits annually, and each one requires careful planning across 2-3 years and a lot of behind-the-scenes work—funding will support the rising costs of planning, marketing, and installing exhibits.

The best part of Big Day of Giving is that every donation does truly make a difference—and even if you may not be in a place to give at this time, just sharing word about the Pence and our mission can help. The arts can create a positive impact on people of all ages and backgrounds. The Pence offers a space for curiosity, creativity, discovery, and reflection. It provides a place for both friends and strangers to connect, building a community that is warm and tight-knit. Especially in Davis, and in Yolo County, we know how much the arts contribute to bringing people together and creating special experiences.
