Needs

This Spring, Square Root Academy will be opening the doors to its educational learning facility, Lab 7. Lab 7 is focused on creating an ecosystem designed to ensure equitable STEM access, digital literacy, and tech infused creative expression, to all populations from youth to seniors. The facility will include a classroom space and a computer lab to provide responsive professional learning opportunities for members and community workshops. After completing course pathways, participants will have the option to capitalize on their experience by taking master courses in Lab 7 that will allow them to obtain certificates of completion from reputable names such as Unity, Microsoft, and Autodesk.

In order to realize this goal, and to outfit this community space with the equipment needed, we will need to raise an additional $60,000.00.

Lab 7 aims to serve over 300 community members this year through our STEM Enrichment Series I. As Square Root Academy flagship program, STEM Enrichment Series, allows every scholar to receive hands on high quality STEM education. This means that in Square Root classrooms, in any given sessions every scholars has their own microprocessors, arduinos, or plain old two liter soda bottles. In order to ensure access for all populations and keeping the programming free, we will need to raise $45,000.00. With your contribution, we can equip our youth with life changing STEM experiences to help them bring out the innovator inside of them.

Square Root Academy currently has a dynamic group of Board of Directors with backgrounds ranging from Technology to Education. This being said, there are still several holes to fill within the board. Current and most immediately needed expertise includes: fundraising, brand development, and organizational structure.

In hopes of developing the newest version of the STEM Enrichment Series (SES II), Square Root Academy will need professional consultation to develop curriculum that can be implemented during the school day. With many schools beginning to adopt NGSS as a common framework, it is imperative that there is representation in the classroom for all scholars to be able to see themselves pursuing a future in STEM. Square Root Academy hopes to be able to do exactly that for the 2019-20 academic school year.

In order to ensure quality assurance, curriculum developed will have to be reviewed by consultants with the knowledge to bring the proposed lessons up to standards.
