Sacramento Guitar Society (SGS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational and arts service organization that has existed in one form or another since at least 1961. The pandemic has been a disruption to our normal programs, but SGS hopes to once again provide high quality musical services like we have in the past. Previously, SGS produced a concert series with international touring artists at the Harris Center in Folsom, held monthly meetings at the E.Claire Raley's Studio for Performing Arts, hosted rehearsals of the Sacramento Guitar Orchestra, brought teaching artists to schools in the Greater Sacramento Region, and sponsored year-round guitar instruction to low-income children by providing both scholarships and donated guitars.

SGS is a well-managed non-profit organization with a highly dedicated, all-volunteer board and elected officers. The organization meets once a month, produces formal meeting minutes and prepares its annual budget in June of every year, in preparation for the beginning of its fiscal year on July 1. A list of current board members can be found at: https://www.sacguitarsociety.org/board-members/

SGS officers and board members are highly dedicated to the organization's mission to promote, share, and celebrate the art of the guitar and its music by providing education and performance opportunities to people of diverse cultures, ages, abilities, and economic means. Every dollar donated to SGS is highly appreciated and spent wisely to help us deliver to our mission. Thank you for the trust you place in us.

Giving Activity

Mission

To promote, share, and celebrate the art of the guitar and its music by providing education and performance opportunities to people of diverse cultures, ages, abilities, and economic means.

Needs

Community Concert Underwriting: Funds are needed to underwrite concerts and events (venue fees, ticketing, advertising, artist fees, hotel accommodations, transportation, some meals, etc.). It is not possible for any non-profit arts organization to manage concerts without underwriting. Concert budgets average $5,000 per event and SGS typically hosts two major concerts per year.

Administrative: Funding supports SGS's administrative requirements, including contracts management, membership/donation mailings, insurance, social media fees, Board expenses (training), office supplies, and management support tools.

Guitar Orchestra Underwriting: Donations support the development of the Sacramento Guitar Society Orchestra (rent for rehearsals, liability insurance, Director fees, funds for music and music supplies, and marketing). This is partly funded by the musicians, but SGS needs help with payment of music, marketing costs, and equipment.

Equity Statement

Our Core Values include the following principles:

Diversity and Equity: SGS strives to provide a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for everyone. We celebrate diversity and promote social equity by supporting access to the arts for underrepresented members of the greater Sacramento community.

Respect and Tolerance: SGS cultivates an environment of respect and tolerance for all participants (members, staff, participants).

Community Engagement: We develop relationships that make a positive difference in our community and introduce new audiences to the art of the guitar.

Nurturing All Generations: SGS believes that music has the power to inspire all people to reach their fullest potential. We believe that listening to music nourishes the heart and soul, and that the study of music supports academic ability as well as helping to develop life skills.

Supporting Artists: SGS offers performance opportunities that encompass broad genres of guitar music. We provide guitarists with a platform for sharing their art with our community.

Supporting Music Education: SGS supports local school music education programs. We provide low-cost guitar rentals for in person and virtual music classes through local schools. Additionally, SGS offers schools the opportunity to have both local and visiting guitarists perform for students.

Supporting Music Teachers: SGS provides opportunities for member music teachers to connect with potential students and to supplement their income by providing instruction through several SGS programs including the guitar orchestra, veterans in the arts, and strum for fun.
