We are governed by an active and engaged board of thirteen members with varied professional affiliations. In 1942, in the midst of World War II, a group of committed Sacramento citizens were looking for ways to entertain the troops. Following a successful tour of local military bases, they formed the Sacramento Civic Repertory Theatre. On October 18, 1949, they expanded by opening the Eaglet Theatre, which would eventually be known by a few different names and move to a few different locations. Today, it is known as the Sacramento Theatre Company and housed in the H Street Theatre Complex. Currently, our primary activities include the Main Series, the Cabaret Series, and the School of the Arts. 

STC understands that young people dream of careers in performing arts, but they need an outlet and proper training. STC meets those needs by offering K-12 students after school and weekend training programs. The School of the Arts contains six programs:


1. Young Professionals Conservatory, which includes fully-produced Youth Series productions 
2. Pre-Professional Ensemble Company, which includes fully-produced Youth Series productions 
3. Saturday Acting Classes
4. ACT*DANCE*SING Camps
5. Acting/Performance Training for Adults 
6. School Partnership Program

STC also takes great pride in its Community Partnership Program, which is often another way that we are able to serve our mission of integrating professional theatre and theatre arts education. Through the Community Partnership Program, STC works with other area not-for-profit organizations to raise awareness about important topics and the work of other worthy groups that have some tie-in to our productions. Community Partners for the 2022-2023 season included Sacramento Public Library, Sacramento Children's Home, The Society for the Blind, and The California State Railroad Foundation.

Mission

The Sacramento Theatre Company (STC) strives to be a leader in integrating professional theatre with theatre arts education. STC produces engaging professional theatre, provides exceptional theatre training, and uses theatre as a tool for educational engagement.

Needs

$15 supports administrative and labor costs for our organization which costs $5000 per day to operate successfully.

$25 pays for one subsidized ticket so that a student may attend one of our live shows free of charge.

$250 pays for a scholarship for a Saturday acting class student or an adult student to take our adult education classes.

$350 pays for a child to attend summer camp, opening their eyes to imagination and open play while also providing full day childcare for families.

$2,750 funds a full year of tuition for one Young Professionals Conservatory student. STC does not turn away students due to an inability to pay, and donor-funded scholarships help us honor this commitment.

$5,000 funds props and costumes for Youth Series Shows, enabling us to keep enrollment costs low to the families that participate in our education program.

$7500 allows us to professional teaching artists, creating a pathway for professional artists to be paid an equitable wage while developing the next generation of theatre artists.

$10,000 pays for a bus/transportation and tickets for a school to attend live theatre free of charge, some students seeing theatre for the very first time.

$15,000 provides funding for one semester of an after-school program. Our School Partnership program is a wonderful resource for schools who would not normally have access to after school enrichment.

$25,000 funds the development and sponsorship of a new play. STC has presented world premieres of many plays and is able to continue this work only with the support of donors and sponsors.
