Equity Statement
The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera (SP&O) believes diversity, inclusion and equity are integral to
classical music and opera. As a cultural member of the Sacramento Region, creating community centered
classical music and opera experiences means meeting the diverse communities of the region where they are and creating space to welcome all, regardless of race, class, age, gender identity, religion, abilities, or
orientations.
Our work strives to create a gathering place for these communities to celebrate classical music and opera,
recognizing the significant impact these art forms can have on our community, uplifting spirits by providing
opportunities for solace and healing, understanding, and reconciliation.
The SP&O Board and Staff are committed to taking the steps necessary to ensure our organization
represents the Sacramento Community and is accessible by the whole community. We recognize the work
of acknowledging and removing barriers to our performances and community engagement. This work is a
fluid and living process, and our commitment to this work will manifest through our recognition that at our
core SP&O provides a service that can only be effective when enhanced through active listening,
engagement, and representation of diverse voices and perspectives.
