Winters Friends of the Library (WFoL) was founded in 1970 to support the Winters Library by raising funds, organizing programs, and providing volunteer service. It incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 1985. The group, which now has more than 150 members, has grown into one of the most active volunteer organizations in Winters. WFoL worked steadily for 15 years to raise funds for the new library. In the fall of 2009, Winters Community Library, a joint use library between Yolo County and the Winters Joint Unified School District opened. With WFoL's support, the library remains a vibrant center that serves all members of our community.

Mission

The Winters Friends of the Library is an all volunteer organization. We promote library involvement, increase literacy, foster a love of reading, and enhance community culture. We serve our community by providing unique and innovative literacy and cultural programs, creating opportunities for lifelong learning, and collaborating to strengthen our library services for the entire community.

Needs

Annually the Yolo County Library submits a "wish list" to be funded by Winters Friends of the Library (WFoL). This wish list typically includes funding for youth and adult library programing, collection enhancements, and technology and facilities improvements for the Winters Community Library.

Over the years, through the generosity of our donors, we have been able to support and grow a vibrant community library. With the money raised this year, we will be able to support and grow this vital community resource in the following ways:

Programs: Our funding supports programming at the Winters Community Library, such as Storytime, Bilingual Storytime, the Summer Reading Program, adult ESL classes, and more.

Collection Enhancements: Collection enhancements include adding actual books on the shelves, as well as online resources. Through the online resources, library patrons have access to magazines, newspapers, and books online.

Technology and Facilities: Recent technology and facilities improvements have included new AV equipment for the Margaret Parsons room and expanding the library teaching garden in partnership with the Yolo County Master Gardeners. Upcoming projects include accessibility improvements to the circulation desk.

In addition to growing our funds for library support, we are always growing our membership and volunteer base. Please contact our organization if you would like to volunteer.
