Real Musical Theatre. Every Kid. Since 1990.

For 35 years, River City Theatre Company has done something rare in the world of youth theatre: produced full-scale musical productions — live orchestra, real costumes, complete sets — and opened the doors to every child who wants to be part of them.

No cuts. No turning kids away.

The All-Access Workshop

RCTC's signature program is the All-Access Workshop. Two productions a year, 14 to 16 weeks each, where every registered student in grades 1–12 is guaranteed a role. Students learn acting, singing, and choreography from a dedicated team in a workshop environment built for growth — not competition.

Older students (grades 4–12) have the opportunity to audition for lead and supporting roles, with a preparatory workshop beforehand to set them up for success. The audition process itself is part of the education: a real, positive, confidence-building experience designed to help kids grow.

A Real Theatrical Experience

Each production culminates in 8 public performances over two weekends — split between two casts so every child gets meaningful stage time — plus 4 weekday matinees that bring live musical theatre to local schoolchildren who might never otherwise see it.

The orchestra is live. The costumes are crafted. The sets are full-scale. The community is real.

This is what makes RCTC different. Most youth theatre programs make families choose between access and excellence. RCTC has refused to choose since 1990.

A Sacramento Institution

Founded by Ron Cisneros and John Iniguez in 1990, River City Theatre Company has grown into a beloved part of Sacramento's cultural fabric. Thousands of young performers have come through our doors. Some have gone on to perform professionally or in collegiate theatre programs. Most have simply grown into more confident, more creative, more connected versions of themselves.

We also operate the RCTC Ronald Cisneros Scholarship, named for our co-founder, which helps families who couldn't otherwise afford to participate join our community.

Mission

River City Theatre Company brings live musical theater to the youth of the Sacramento region through an inclusive and educational workshop environment. We strive to provide a positive and supportive environment where youth can grow to become confident individuals with the life skills needed to become extraordinary leaders.

Needs

Your Big Day of Giving gift to River City Theatre Company is unrestricted operating support — which is exactly what a 35-year-old nonprofit theatre company needs most.

That means your gift goes wherever it's needed to keep RCTC on stage:

✦ The live orchestra that plays every production

✦ Costumes, sets, and technical production that make our shows feel like real theatre

✦ Rehearsal and storage space that makes 14–16 weeks of workshops possible

✦ Tuition support through the RCTC Ronald Cisneros Scholarship for families who couldn't otherwise be here

✦ The day-to-day work of keeping a beloved Sacramento arts organization running

📣 Our 2026 Big Day of Giving goal is $15,000.

Every gift counts. $25 helps. $100 helps more. $500 helps even more. And if you're in a position to give at a leadership level, we'd love to talk with you about a deeper partnership.

Whatever you give today becomes part of what keeps RCTC going — for the kids on our stage now, and for the next generation of Sacramento performers and audiences yet to come.

Equity Statement

River City Theatre Company was founded on our dedication to excellence which is derived directly from our diversity, equity and inclusion.

We know that our community is our greatest asset and the heart of RCTC. Opportunity is not always equally available to all. Our commitment is to be actively leading the way, creating a safe and healthy space for all youth to learn, grow and gain the skills that will carry them through the rest of their lives.

We offer a culturally and intellectually rich learning environment.

We are proud to develop solutions that positively impact our community and the greater Sacramento region.

We are a community who nurture and benefit from a diverse group of families.

We actively create and sustain conditions of equity and inclusion that allows our children, parents and families to participate and thrive.

We respect, honor and support our community which means all of our members.

With every workshop, we are working to be a positive example in the community, while also working to always improve our diverse, inclusive, and equitable world.
