Established in 1968, River City Food Bank (RCFB) is the oldest, continuously serving food bank in Sacramento. Starting as a humble food closet at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, RCFB has grown to serve more than 200,000 men, women and children facing hunger in Sacramento County. The organization is unique in that it is open five days per week and serves anyone experiencing food insecurity in Sacramento County. For more than 50 years, RCFB's philosophy and driving force has always been that no one should be hungry.

River City Food Bank (RCFB) helps people avoid a crisis and work toward self-reliance by providing a short-term food supply when they are unable to meet basic living expenses. Our programs serve low-income families, children, seniors, the chronically ill, refugees/asylum-seekers, individuals experiencing homelessness, the working poor and individuals with disabilities.

In 2022, RCFB served nearly 2.5 million pounds of food to more than 292,000 people facing hunger - this is only possible with your support!

Giving Activity

River City Food Bank's mission is to alleviate hunger in Sacramento County by providing consistent access to healthy, meaningful food for all.

1. Unrestricted support- this allows RCFB to purchase healthy product and support the community needs as they change throughout the year; especially as we navigate the pandemic. For every $2 donated, a neighbor facing hunger receives 1 healthy meal.

2. Event Sponsorship- RCFB hosts one fundraiser each year called Empty Bowls. The funding raised from this event provides critical support for our programs, including the purchase and distribution of fresh, seasonal groceries 5 times per week.

3. Volunteers- RCFB would not be able to do the work that we do without the hard work and dedication of more than 1200 volunteers each year. Click here to sign up today: https://rivercityfoodbank.org/volunteer-your-time/
