The Pops Chorale and Orchestra

Reviewed by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation

The Pops Chorale & Orchestra, under the umbrella of PPC Entertainment, Inc., is committed to bringing a multi-generational group of musicians together to showcase highly entertaining performances. Our objective is to connect with music lovers eager to recall Broadway, Hollywood, holiday, and other popular music of the last 75 years - or to be introduced to it for the first time. Through major concert series held in May and December, we use regional venues to musically enrich our communities, provide scholarships to talented students to further their vocal training, and support music outreach programs for children and youth throughout the Sacramento region.  The Pops Chorale & Orchestra makes music that brings the community together by:

1.  Producing entertaining, live, choreographed musical performances at the highest level of excellence and artistry.
2.  Serving the community by connecting people of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to experience and appreciate live performing arts together.
3.  Engaging and mentoring artists of all levels - from novice through advanced - in educational and developmental programs that nurture and inspire their innate talents.

Our core organizational values include:
- Inclusiveness in our creative endeavors and in how we welcome diverse artists, audiences, and learners into our multi-generational family
- Ongoing engagement that keeps us relevant and connected to the community and region
- Stewardship of human, technological, artistic, and financial resources

PPC Entertainment (The Pops Chorale and Orchestra) enables great performance experiences for the entertainment, education, and enrichment of the community.

Our Goal: To cultivate opportunities for musicians and enthusiastic audiences of all ages to connect through live musical performance, education, and community enrichment.

Needs

Type: Community Outreach

$10,000 - The Pops Chorale & Orchestra Youth Scholarship Program

- $250 and $800 scholarships are awarded annually through application and audition to young musicians, aged 12 to 17, who demonstrate exceptional vocal talent and a commitment to live performance.

- $2,500 scholarships are awarded to high school seniors or college students enrolled in music education with a focus on vocal performance.

- Scholarship winners are invited to perform as guest artists with the Pops in the Holiday or Spring Concert Series.

Scholarships afford young people the opportunity to perform in front of live audiences, in addition to furthering their vocal instruction, providing a conduit for bringing these talented young singers into the Pops.

Type: Community Outreach

$20,000 - Develop Youth and Young Adult Outreach Programs

True to the mission of our Chorale, we need to develop young singers' skills to promote innovation and excellence for a multi-generational audience. Opportunities for training and professional development are necessary to foster vocal excellence for those who perform with the Pops, while enhancing the singers' knowledge and enjoyment of various music genres.

Our research indicates that increased participation of youth and younger adults in the Pops generates interest and involvement of younger families and audience members.

Type: Community Outreach

$30,000 - Support artists from our community

The organization's strategic plan includes a focus on bringing live performances to the community and greater Sacramento region. To offset expenses not covered by ticket sales, donations are needed for the following:

- Performance expenses for guest artists and/or guest choirs

- Newly commissioned pieces by noted choral composers

- Scale remuneration for guest professional instrumentalists

Type: Concert Experience

$20,000/year — underwriting production expenses, staging, venue, music and orchestra expenses
