$5,000 Goal

Since 2005, the Placer Breast Cancer Foundation has been committed to funding meaningful breast cancer research and keeping every dollar raised right here in our community. With your support, we’ve funded the PBCF Breast Cancer Chair at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, advanced major studies on mammography and BRCA2, and completed multiple multi‑year research commitments — including our most recent $175,000 project in 2024.

In 2025, we began doubling our commitment to giving. We have begun supporting the Mammo+ Bus, a mobile mammography van which will make scheduled visits to underserved communities in Placer County to provide mammograms free of service, we are supporting groundbreaking research into less‑toxic cancer treatments through the Aldo Pineschi Memorial Grant, honoring a beloved friend and champion of this cause, and we are sponsoring a research fellow at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center whose sole focus is on breast cancer research. We also continue to invest in education through the Placer Women’s Retreat and Students for a Cure, and we partner with local nonprofits serving survivors and families. In 2025, we are also proud to announce that we were able to make major contributions to both Kaiser and Sutter Roseville for their patient facing women’s health programs, focused specifically on breast cancer patients.

Your generosity makes this work possible. Together, we can continue advancing research, supporting local women, and strengthening care for those facing breast cancer in our community.

Mission

Breast cancer survivors Carol Garcia and Teri Munger founded the Placer Breast Cancer Endowment in 2005 with a mission to strengthen breast cancer research, education, and treatment in our region. Their initial goal—to raise $1.5 million to endow a Breast Cancer Chair at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center—was achieved in 2014.

Following this milestone, the organization became the Placer Breast Cancer Foundation, expanding its mission to support ongoing research, community education, and outreach programs that benefit individuals and families throughout Placer County.

Needs

As we enter May, we’re reflecting on the lasting impact of our longtime board member and friend, Aldo Pineschi, whose leadership helped shape the Placer Breast Cancer Foundation from the very beginning. Aldo was a driving force behind our mission for nearly twenty years, championing research, education, and support for local patients.

In his honor, we created the Aldo Pineschi Memorial Grant, which funds two breast cancer patients each year who are participating in a UC Davis research study focused on developing less‑toxic cancer treatments.

This Big Day of Giving, we invite you to support the grant that continues Aldo’s work and strengthens the future of cancer care in our community. And thanks to River Valley Community Bank, all gifts will be matched dollar‑for‑dollar up to $2,500 — doubling your impact.

Together, we can carry Aldo’s legacy forward and bring hope to those who need it most.
