About our Nonprofit
Pathways to Employment is a nonprofit organization empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through inclusive classes and support. Our programs build confidence, life skills, and independence while fostering social connection and community.
Founded in 2017, we focus on people with high support needs, offering personalized, small-group learning that meets clients where they are. We believe everyone deserves a safe space to grow.
Why Our Work Matters
Adults with IDD often face isolation, limited opportunities, and ongoing care needs. California serves over 600,000 people with IDD, with 30,000 in the Sacramento area alone. Despite existing supports, a critical gap remains in services for adults with high support needs.
Pathways to Employment helps fill that gap. We provide low-barrier access to classes and community for those often excluded elsewhere.
Our Journey and Impact
We started in 2017 with small projects like concession stands and handmade goods. Today, we serve dozens of clients weekly from our 2,500-square-foot center in Fair Oaks.
Our classes include fitness, cooking, arts and crafts, office tasks, and community volunteering—from the SPCA to local food banks. Every activity builds purpose and connection.
Programs and Services
Pathways to Employment offers a wide range of classes that help adults with developmental disabilities build real-life skills, confidence, and connections. Our small-group classes (max 8 clients) are designed to support individuals with high support needs across five core areas: life skills, social development, safety, community participation, and personal growth.
Sample offerings include:
Independent Living Skills: Cooking, budgeting, cleaning, and safety
Social and Communication: Conversation, group decision-making, and navigating relationships
Creative Expression: Arts & crafts, soap making, seasonal projects
Community Involvement: Volunteering with local libraries, food banks, and animal shelters
Structured Work Simulations: Coffee cart, pop-up stand, and office skills activities (with staff support)
In 2024, we expanded our program with new classes in:
Hospitality & Kitchen Basics
Gardening and Outdoor Skills
Introductory Construction Projects
Each class is designed to build confidence, purpose, and a sense of belonging—one class at a time.
Looking Ahead to 2025
In 2025, we aim to serve more clients with high support needs. That means expanding class offerings, hiring trained staff, and closing the service gap for this overlooked population.
Your donation today helps us grow access, inclusion, and belonging—one class at a time.
