Next Move Homeless Services

Next Move Homeless Services (formerly Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center) is a profound force in moving homeless families and individuals to self-sufficiency and self-reliance. Started as a Family Shelter program in 1972 to meet the basic needs of seven homeless families, the agency now serves an average of 500 people each day. At first, our mission was to provide shelter to help ease people out of homelessness. However, as our clients' needs have changed, we too have had to grow our services to meet these changing needs. Our expanded services include providing individual success plans, self-sufficiency & life skills workshops, parenting resources, budgeting, housing, health & mental health care, housing relocation assistance, employment readiness, and community support services. Next Move's shelters, temporary housing, and permanent housing, bolstered by an ever-growing list of services, continues to make visible and measurable changes in people's lives.

Mission

The mission of Next Move Homeless Services is to help individuals and families with children achieve self-reliance.

Needs

Next Move's most pressing needs are funding and donations that will help cover operating costs for our programs, including our Family Shelter, Francis House Center, our Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) programs, and our Mather Singles Interim Housing program. All donor contributions are funneled directly into programs that house and support families.

Francis House Center's Family Rescue Program: This program provides temporary emergency housing in a motel with supportive services to families with dependent children or who are pregnant in their last trimester.

Francis House Center's Job Development Center: Clients can receive one on one assistance with internet job searching, resume and cover letter development, phone/fax access, financial education, and employment fairs. Our Family Self Sufficiency Program provides additional employment support with transportation, interviews, job clothing, and job coaching needs.

Next Move's Emergency Family Shelter: In addition to providing emergency shelter to families, our Family Shelter provides services such as case management and youth services.

Donations of new or gently used clothing, furniture, and household goods.
